Ella Shagabutdinova provides the Podesta Group’s portfolio of international clients with legal research and analysis and strategic insight into international and US domestic issues, utilizing her expertise on a broad range of international and human rights issues. Prior to joining the Podesta Group, Ella was a Senior Fellow with the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, a part of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where she drafted human rights legislation, conducted research and prepared commission hearings and letters. Previously, she served as a Program Associate to the Carter Center’s Human Rights Program; during her time there, she helped with legal research and analysis on broad range of international and US domestic issues, including international courts and tribunals litigation on enforcement of international treaties and human rights norms; anti-terror laws and legislation; Guantanamo litigation and military commissions; US immigration law; and US criminal law and procedure. She also has experience working with US Middle East policy at the Carter Center. Ella has volunteered in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with the Peace Corps and is a native speaker of Russian. A member of the New York State Bar, Ella graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law. She has also served as a visiting lecturer of international law at the University of Georgia's School of Public and International Affairs.
