Formerly a senior US Senate and House communications strategist and policy adviser, Izzy Klein spearheads government relations and media outreach efforts for financial services, technology, telecommunications and energy and environment clients.
Among his many contributions while at the Podesta Group, Izzy developed and executed a strategy that enabled a start-up company in the financial services sector to re-launch itself in spite of a serious regulatory objection.
Before joining the Podesta Group, Izzy was the Deputy Staff Director for Communications for the Joint Economic Committee, chaired by Senator Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate. Managing messaging and media outreach, Izzy jump-started the committee’s work on crucial economic issues, including the housing and credit crisis, energy policy, sovereign wealth funds, tax policy and trade policy. During his tenure, the coverage of the committee in newspapers and wire services increased by more than 400 percent from previous years. Previously, Izzy served as Communications Director for Senator Schumer, assisting his work on the Senate Finance, Banking, Housing and Urban Development and Judiciary Committees.
Izzy sharpened his legislative strategy skills in the House, working for Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA) as political director, national finance director, press secretary, legislative assistant and senior communications adviser. As a staffer for Markey, a senior member of the House Committees on Energy and Commerce, Homeland Security, and Natural Resources, Izzy became well-versed on these issues, as well as with telecommunications, climate change, nuclear non-proliferation and consumer protection.
A native of New Jersey, Izzy has a bachelor's from Georgetown University. He is a partner for the Truman National Security Project and serves as a board member for Strive DC, a worthy organization near and dear to his heart.
