As CEO of the American Association for Justice (AAJ, formerly the Association of Trial Lawyers of America), Jon led the repositioning, revitalization and turnaround of one of the nation’s most powerful professional associations. Helping AAJ to reframe the debate about civil justice issues, Jon developed a new communications program and web presence. Before joining AAJ, Jon was a senior partner at the public affairs and marketing company Fleishman-Hillard.
During President Bill Clinton’s administration, Jon was special counsel to the president of the Overseas Private Investment Corp. Earlier in his career, he was Chief of Staff and General Counsel for Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Counsel and Communications Director for Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT), who then chaired the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. He has worked on five presidential campaigns: Howard Dean in 2004, Bill Clinton in 1992, Richard Gephardt in 1988, Walter Mondale in 1984 and Edward Kennedy in 1980.
A native of Los Angeles, Jon has a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a JD from the University of San Francisco School of Law. He has taught a public affairs seminar for graduate students at Georgetown University and lectured or spoken on politics, public policy or change management at Yale University, Columbia University Law School, George Washington University and American University.
